Lifting

Started for weight loss, stayed for the love of the art

Some of my progress so far!

I've been lifting on and off for 2+ years now. Like many people, I started because I wanted to lose weight. The gym seemed like the obvious answer—lift heavy things, burn calories, get in shape. Simple, right?

The Transformation

But somewhere along the way, something shifted. What began as a means to an end became something I genuinely loved. I fell in love with the art of lifting—the precision of form, the satisfaction of progressive overload, the mental game of pushing through that last rep when your muscles are screaming at you to stop.

Lifting taught me discipline. It taught me patience. You can't rush progress in the gym. You can't cheat your way to strength. You have to show up, put in the work, and trust the process.

The 100kg Dream

I have a goal: I wish to squat 100 kgs one day. It's one of those milestones that feels both achievable and impossibly far away. Right now, I'm stuck at a PR of 92.5kg at 1RM. So close, yet so far.

But that's the beauty of lifting—there's always something to work towards. Always a heavier weight to chase, always a new personal record to set. The journey never really ends; it just evolves.

The On and Off

I'll be honest—I said "on and off" for a reason. Life happens. Work gets busy. Motivation wanes. There are weeks where I'm at the gym religiously, and weeks where I don't touch a barbell.

But I always come back. Because lifting isn't just about the physical gains anymore. It's about proving to myself that I can set a goal and work towards it. It's about the mental clarity that comes after a good session. It's about being part of a community that celebrates strength in all its forms.

One day, I'll hit that 100kg squat. And when I do, I'll set my sights on the next goal. Because that's what lifters do—we keep pushing, keep growing, keep lifting.
